My amp is back from New York where it was worked on by Voodoo Amps. Read on from here if you want to know what all they did…

Yeah Trace at Voodoo amps worked his spell on my 1984 JCM 800 2203 100 watt. Unfortunately I have not had time to play on it yet since I only have a 4 x12 cab that is in storage. Living in this small apartment while the house is built is killing me. I think I am going to buy a 2 x 12 cab soon. Just so I have something I can carry with me easier when I play somewhere other than the house.

Anyway, I thought I would give some details as to what modifications and repairs were done to it. Then, when I get a speaker cab I’ll shoot some video and audio of the sound. I am sure it will be very nice.

First, a little background. I sent the amp to a local shop to have it re-biased, and re-tubed. Got it home, started playing and it sounded great…phone rings…stop playing put it on standby…come back to the amp and play for a few minutes then it just dies….what the crap!!!!!! The amp would not even power on. So I was pretty much…uhh sad and confused.

So Trace at Voodoo amps calls me after receiving the amp and says the repair was just a broken wire. So he re-wired it for well we’ll keep prices out of this…CHEAP!

So here is the list of mods:
Deluxe Classic Mod –

All Modifications are exclusive to Voodoo Ampsâ„¢.

Recommended for blues/rock/80’s players – Not for high gain or extreme metal players

Increased gain/distortion (3 Gain stages)

Articulate/defined distortion – No fuzzy/buzzy characteristics

All frequencies are balanced out so the amp is more even sounding over all as well as responsive

You can get a cranked tone at lower volumes as well as greatly increased sustain

The amp will be able to cut through the mix a lot better both live as well as in the studio

Harmonics leap off from the fretboard with ease

Recommended Add-On Controls: Bottom Control, Global control push/pull Gain Boost, Mid-Slice

Voodoo Modsâ„¢ retain your amps resale value verses decreasing it.

Custom Voodoo-Spec Mercury Magnetics output transformer

Installation of Mercury Magnetics output transformer

Custom Voodoo-Spec Mercury Magnetics choke

Installation of choke

Push/Pull Bottom control –

Recommend for all styles of music

Gives you two (2) very distinctly different tones as well as how the amp feels

Pushed in – Tight bottom combined with a very smooth or liquid like feel (same as regular Bottom control)

Pulled out – increased tightness – adds even more bottom end than any other control on the market

Allows you to dial in the perfect amount of bottom end for what ever your style is

You can tighten or loosen the bottom end to suit your personal playing style

This is a must for recording artists as well as rock/metal/heavy/extreme metal players

Cream Control –

Recommend for most styles of music – not recommended for metal/heavy/extreme metal players

On zero – 100% out of the circuit

Allows you to make the top end warmer or creamier sounding

If you are into Jazz or Eric Johnson’esq tones this is a must-have control

Global Control –

Recommend for all styles of music – Extremely powerful for tone shaping!

Allows you sweep through the spectrum from the girthy lower mids to the upper mids

You can use this control to make your amp sound numerous different ways

When gigging/playing shows you can always find the sweet spot with this control

Dial in what your ear wants to hear then fine tune everything with your EQ controls

If there is room on your amp this is a must-have control

Replace all filter caps
Completely re-tubed (all matched tubes) & bias set

So now for some pics of my precious.
