The buzz about Google Buzz
I have grown a little sore about all the social networking applications out there. Myspace was fun – but spammed me with crap I did not want to see and girls who “wanted me” (I already have that problem – LOL). Facebook drove me crazy because people you did not want to talk to could find you, and it also became a gossip forum for everyone to get into your business. I know…there are some measures you can take to make them private, or only share information with friends or whatever…but still.
So now Google is in the social networking game. I decided to give it a try. So far, nothing special as far as I am concerned. I did come across an article that got my attention though. It was saying that G-Buzz is already posing privacy concerns. From the article:
The issue was noted by the Silicon Alley Insider on Wednesday. “Imagine … a wife discovering that her husband emails and chats with an old girlfriend,” the Web site said. “Imagine a boss discovers a subordinate emails with executives at a competitor.”
Hmmmm…it should not be Google’s job to police your private affairs and make you faithful to your wife or not hold secrets from her. As far as the boss comment – really? Who cares. I fyou emailing them, guess they would have to prove you were sharing trade secrets or something. This is still a free country?
I guess my thing is this – people are concerned about their privacy – they should be, but to have an expectation that the developers of a said application is responsible is ludicrous. If have somehting to hide…maybe you should cover all your bases and not use email, postal mail, phones, social networks, etc. for your means of communication. Your privacy is your responsibility. I mean did someone not hack Mrs. Palin’s yahoo account or something back during the campaing?
So you have a choice – either be honest and hide nothing, accept your responisbility for your privacy, or maybe just don’t be so important. LOL
Anyway – just wanted to post something since it is slow and snowing.
