Here we go! Arduino!

As if I needed something else to learn and turn into a hobby – here I go with the Arduino.

Got one from a friend with an Ethernet shield.  Next thing I know I am ordering a few resistors and sensors for it.

I have planned several projects for this new venture already. The programming is addictive, and I am sure it gets worse once you can IMG_3678really control and end device or gather more data. So far, I have programmed it to show me the status of all the analog channels with their voltage readings and the status of the digitals on a web page. Pretty slick.

I was working with it today to write data to a php page then to a MySQL database. From there I hope to also control it via a web front end.

The sensors and all should be here next week – then it’s on!

Projects include:

Kaden’s Automated Coop

Lie to me AC

Let it grow arduino

It’s a hit!

i am sure they’ll be more, but we will have to wait and see

***************UPDATE***************

Well, I did not want to do a new post, and this one was short – yeah like we care about how much crap we put in a database. Anyway…

So, I worked on the  Arduino to MYSQL a little more today. Got it posting data from the board to my server on the web. Displaying it in a nice format and I am happy.

Kaden and I got some stuff in from Amazon today:

  • 20 pack of photoresistors
  • 24V DC motor 20RPM
  • 500 various resistors (0 Ohm – 1MOhm) carbon film 5%

We are getting more stuff starting tomorrow. He is still excited and interested – I think he will be more so when he can actually see something happening on the coop. Seeing it on the desk and web is cool – but he wants to see something happening out there at the coop.

I am keeping the link somewhat a secret for now – when complete – you will be able to login and see the girls.(hens)
