Linux vs. Windows … again!

Hey folks, chances are if your reading this you have a computer. LOL, yeah I know, you can stop all the mummerings about “Dick Tracy, Columbo, and Sherlock Homes” now. I’ll even go further with my statement and say that you are most likely running a Microsoft Windows operating system. Well I have an alternative you may want to try. I have been forced to switch because my Windows laptop…well died.

Linux—- I will say it phonetically “Lin – icks”. It’s nothing new really, you can read all about it on the big WWW, there are different distributions (Fedora, Suse, Mandrake, etc.) So I won’t go into all that. I will tell you that it is a very stable, and versitile operating system, and for me a life saver.

I easily do all the tasks I did on ‘Windoze’, and more. The only thing I miss is an application suite called Macromedia Studio MX, but hey I can still do everything it does…just have to do it by hand. I can even use terminal services client to remotely connect to my XP pro box at home if I just have to have something off of windows.

I have used Linux for my server needs for some time, and played with it on my older laptop for a while…but now I am very comfotable using it. Using a program called ‘wine’ you can even run some windows software on your Linux machine.

None the less, if you’ve got an old PC that is about to be thrown out or you just want give that old PC a new life..then Linux can do that. Besides, you can learn a few things in the transition.

Check out Linux and let me know what you think.

Later & good luck,
