Modern day communication

We communicate via email, cell phone, SMS text, and blogs. The days of writing letters, or calling on the land line phone is fading. It’s true, look around you. The reason I bring this up is…this morning my Blackberry died. Went into a reboot loop…and here I sit feeling somewhat helpless.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t have to have it for my personal life, but my job in the IT field makes is necessary. I am always on call, 24 x7 x 365. I woke up this morning hearing that familar tone from the blackberry telling me I had a ticket that was escalating. I knew it had to be something fairly important, so I got up to investigate.

I logged into my laptop, made a VPN connection to the office network, and researched the ticket. Made the oppropriate calls, and started my normal day. Then…I looked at my Blackberry to refresh my memory of what time the ticket came in….all I see is my blackberry rebooting, shuting down,, rebooting, shuting down, re……you get the idea.

So, I now have no communication with my job. I have advised my supervisor, but there looks to be no quick resolution.

This just made me think how much we rely on technology today…and how fragile it is.

Thought I would blog on it, so I could calm down. I was actually getting pretty pissed about it. Then I thought….wow I can have a Sunday off. LOL
