Freemason’s on the recruit?

Freemasonry
Freemasonry

I came across an article in my RSS feeds that caught my attention. Seems that some of the Masonic lodges are running ads on TV to try and recruit members. I seem to be a few months behind on this, but it is in fact true. I am sure there will be the anti-masonic, and conspiracy theorists will have a little fun with this. Here is you a start…We are about to finally take over the world. LOL Sorry….my sense of humor may not be as well taken by some of my brethren.

I have updated this post with a simular page that you will find at the top of my blog titled Freemasonry. Please feel free to visit that page – read – and discuss. I also put the links to the video’s instead of the acutal video embedded. It was causing problems with some viewers. Thanks,

Here is a video of one of the TV ads.

First I find this “recruitment” odd. Our fraternity has never done anything like this in its entire history to my knowledge. I asked one to become one, as did most of the brothers I know. Secondly, and not that I am against the ads, I’m not, I feel these ads promote a confused message. I certainly did not seek Freemasonry for “greatness”. I would be entertained, if none the less, to hear the opinions of my other brothers.

Me being a Freemason has undoubtedly caused a bit of concern to my friends and family who know very little, or the ones who ‘think’ they know about Freemasonry. So, I thought I would make a post about what Freemasonry is to me, as well as point out some points of interest for those of you who wish to go further with your research. My only hope is that you understand why it is I feel a since of pride, if that is the correct word to use, about my membership to the fraternity.

We’ll start with a few things of what Freemasonry is not.

  1. Freemasonry is not a religion. It does not offer salvation. Salvation is only through Jesus, the son of God.
  2. It’s rituals are not bloody oaths to the death.
  3. It is not a political power group determined to take over the world.

Now we’ll discuss what Freemasonry is, to me at least.

We’ll start with the classic book definition – ” a system of morality, veiled in allegory, and illustrated by symbols.” Freemasons strive to help make the world a better place for themselves, their family, and their community. They hold themselves to certain principles and virtues. They are independent men whom all work toward peace, love, and fraternity while trying to shun all forms of ignorance and tyranny. They believe strongly in family, country, and God. They stand on three great tenets – brotherly love, relief, and truth, as well as three great virtues – faith, hope, and charity.

I’ll explain those tenets and virtues, as I take them:

  • Brotherly Love – the equality among men. Masons are men of all statures, professions, and faiths that bind together in tolerance and respect for their fellow man.
  • Relief – the duty of all Masons to show compassions, sympathy, and aid to all those who suffer, no matter the cause. Not only to fellow brethren, but all people.
  • Truth – the foundation of all virtue. To be true to oneself, one’s family, mankind, and unto his God. Without truth, true knowledge, wisdom, understanding can not be obtained.
  • Faith – trust and confidence in God, thought “lost in sight” – meaning it isn’t seen, but can be demonstrated – through faith you obtain hope.
  • Hope – for the life of immortality
  • Charity – an extension of grace. As we freely have been given the gift, so should we give it to all those who require support.
Now, I know sometimes I let those down. Which is another point I want to make. Our fraternity is not immune to a bad seed, or someone who, like me, does not always do as he should. Several times I have heard stories of the “anti-mason” who keeps hammering on a fellow brother until he lashes out stating how wrong that person is about masonry only to be told “now that is not very masonic, is it?” One minute they want to run us down, provoke, and demean – then they know what we stand for and that we are “out of line”. Humorous!
I find it amazing, and again humorous, how I can be accepted by so many people until they find out I am a member of the fraternity. Then, suddenly, I am the human form of all that is evil. Uhh, did I miss something? Usually this thought process comes from the readings, or ramblings of someone who claims to know, but does not. Which leads to my next comment on the ads.
I feel, as do some of my fellow brothers I’ve discussed this with, that we have kept masonry behind closed doors too long. This is the main thing that has fed so many of the dreamt up conspiracies and nonsense. I feel that maybe these ads will help those who want to know more about masonry will feel free to do so, instead of feeling as if they are treading onto something secret and only to members. I am willing to discuss masonry with anyone who is willing to listen and wants to know the truth. Do not ask for our means of recognition – I would not ask for your debit card and PIN. If I were to give those away – what good would my word be? Of course, that is something slowly fading away in todays society as well.
I have heard that the saying “Freemasonry takes good men and makes them better”, is wrong. Only Christ can do that! I feel this is true. I was not saved, did not know my bible, had never read it, only attended church a few times in my 23 years of life. I joined Masonry and found I knew nothing of my faith. I owe something to Masonry for assisting me in finding my Christian faith, which led to me being saved in a true church through Jesus. It was the year I turned 23 I was raised to a Master Mason, and found Jesus – all in the middle of East Texas. I know, strange huh? A Mason who is a Christian – A Christian who is a Mason? Scary ehh? LOL
So, maybe the ads will help. I know, without a doubt, Masonry would help this country, and all men. I am strongly seeking to live my life to those standards – more now than ever. I am still ever faithful to my God and to me my faith and my membership go hand in hand.
Please, if you have any questions – ask. Do some of your own research, but remember the source and is it trust worthy, what is its motive. Then, if you can still trust me, now that you know I am a Mason, feel free to ask any questions you might have.
I would eagerly seek my fellow brothers, friends, and family’s thoughts, and comments on this. So feel free to comment here or via email. I’ll even take phone calls and personal visits. LOL
