Mac! Mac! Mac! and I cry. LOL

I did the Mac OS X 10.4.2 update and Safari started acting really slow. So I found a fix! Also fixed some other minor things that were bothering me. Oh yeah there is something at the end for you non-geeks. LOL

Ok for those of you that did the update to 10.4.2, I hope everything is working fine. As for me, my Mac mini is doing fine, but on my iBook Safari slowed to a crawl. I had been setting up VPN and Citrix on my Mac since I will be heading off to Austin for Apple training (Whooo hoo!), and want to be able to connect to the network while I am gone. Though maybe I had goofed something up.

ANYWAY!

I read some of the Apple discussion boards and folks had a few fixes – none that worked for me though. So knowing it was a DNS issue I thought I would try checking my network pref’s. The DNS was entered correctly, but I decided I would remove them. Working at the phone company in the IT department I knew they were the correct IP addresses, but thought I would remove them to see if anything changed. To my luck YES!!!!!! Safari was back up and running full speed. Now I can stop griping and waiting for a web page to load.

Another little fix I found was for using my iBook at work. I found that when I put the iBook to sleep it would loose connection to our Cisco LEAP authenticated network. Then upon ‘awakening’ the book, you would have to re-enter all your prefs to reconnect.

So to fix it – In the Airport tab of Network Preferences:

1. Set it to join a specific network
2. In the “Network” blank, put in the SSID.
3. In the “Password” blank, enter the LEAP login and password both like this:

The less than and greater than signs are required, as is the slash separating the username and password. If your username is for an NT Domain (which LEAP can do apparently), you should enter it in this format:

Now everytime the book wakes up…it signs on again automatically.

I am doing some testing tomorrow on joining an Active Directory on our Windows “primarily” network. Hope I don’t break anything.

Sorry for the geek stuff folks, here is something to make you laugh at me.

I watched the movie “The Notebook”….oh sweet Jesus! I cried like a baby. I should not watch those kind of movies by myself.

Joe thinks I am lossing my ‘Man card’. Guess it just got to me… ;(
