Katrina keeping everyone busy….
Yeah, I could not resist writing something about Katrina. It is all over the place anyway. I have been pretty busy, so when I was emailed about my site getting dull and old ( I thought it was always that way) I figured this would give me something to update the site with.
Well Sunday before last some friends and I went down to help the Red Cross with the hurricane Katrina evaucuee’s that were being bused to the Penecostal Camp Grounds in Lufkin. It was amazing to see how many were there, and knowing that several thousand were in Houston also. ‘
We help with locating people that needed to complete there registration, bed count, and stocking some food items. I got the pleasure of pushing an older lady in a wheel chair accross the camp grounds, through sand, rocks, melting asphalt…all the stuff a wheel chair will not roll through easily. Did I mention I volunteered for that? LOL
The funniest part of that was…she could walk! I decided against questioning the wheelchair thing…and faithfully took her to get her medication, and back again to her dorm. Was not long after that, we decided they had plenty of help and we went home to shower all the grit off.
Seems that the evaucuees will be OK in the long run. I can only imagine what it would be like to have your job, house, and well… city completely wiped away by a storm. I have a mutal friend who worked in New Orleans…and that is exactly where he stands. Hard to beleive.
On the flip side, I am going to be play Fall Softball for Brookshire Brother’s ( local grocery chain). It has helped my mind realize my body is 30 years old as opposed to the 18 years old it thought it was. LOL We have had a few pratices and season will start in a couple of weeks. Look forward to seeing what ‘game’ we might have.
We (the band) are on the move of ‘resurecting’ our band and its mission. We have had some down time and I think it has done us some good. We’ve had time to see some things that need to be addressed, and we have done just that. Our drummer decided to move to TN, so now we are searching for a new drummer. We are going back now to do some over dubs on the CD project, getting promo packs together, and a list of venues to play. Our ‘BIG’ launch date is January with a Diciple Now show in Waco. Look forward to hitting the road and stage again.
Stephen and I will be representing the band at a local ‘Cowboy Church’ here in Lufkin Friday the 16th. We were both a little shocked that they asked us to play, seeing how our style seems like it would not be a good fit. None the less, we are fired up about another opened door.
Well, keep the band and the hurricane victims in your prayers…check out the band web site (http://newsonband.com) when you get a chance. It will be undergoing some major changes before long.
Peace out!
