Can we live without God?
Christmas night, around 9 PM, while we were all kind of just laying around waiting for the next wave of family to come through, Daddy flipped the old TV over to Fox News. They were airing a show/interview titled “Can we live without God?”.
FOX News/Opinion Dynamics Poll finds that 92 percent of Americans believe in God, but nearly 70 percent think religion plays too small of a role in our lives. One reason may be because people just don’t talk about their faith very much — it’s kept private.
I caught as much of the show as possible – you have to realize it is Christmas and the house, though I stated we were laying around – was still very busy. When I sat down to watch it they were closing an interview with a guy in a black suit jacket whom I heard state something to the fact that there is no God.
Next they had a women from SNL (Saturday Night Live), who started as a Catholic then “lost her faith”. Next an astronaut who stated he has seen proof of a master creator, and a some other small interviews. Then, all of a sudden, it was over. Cut to the commercials…and “Next on Fox!”.
So, though I knew the answer….I really wanted to know what answer they had for all of us…No luck though. They did not answer it directly.
I feel that this probably did more damage than good. I think it made faith to religious. Does that make sense? Let me try to explain the last line. I feel that faith is a belief in something that may not have logical proof or evidence that is readily apparent to everyone. Where religion is just a way of living – a set of beliefs – that all to often take no faith what so ever. Like those people who are a certain denomination but can’t tell you why – or because that is the way they were raised. Did that help explain my lesser educated way of thinking? I’ll move on.
I could not help but think that someone really needs to talk to these people – then it hit me – we should (Christians should) be living our lives – displaying our faith publicly – and showing these lost people that there is in fact a living God. Let me clarify ‘lost people’ – these are not just the ones who deny God, but the ones who say they are religious or go to church without a true relationship with Christ.
Now, granted I never completed any degrees from college. I don’t have any formal theological training. I am a simple person, who is often just simple. LOL ask anyone who knows me, they’ll probably be quick to confirm I am simple – simple minded, etc. What I do know, however, is there is a God – a living God – a God of mercy, grace, and He hears me, He talks to me, and He is evident to me every where I look.
I now most doubters need solid, or scientific evidence if they are to consider seriously God’s existence. Faith is something they just don’t have. We can help lead them to Christ, where their faith will grow.
To me, this is our job. To show the evidence to those who can’t see it. By living our lives openly showing our faith in Jesus. Giving Him praise and worshiping Him openly. Not practicing in private and not being ‘religious’.
Anyway – I am being called out of my little hiding place right now – back into the Christmas family visiting circle. So I will end this post short.
I pray we will all take this Christmas to help remind us of how God has been revealed to us – through creation, through communication, through conscience, and through Christ who lived – walked as a man on this earth and died on the cross for our sins. Whatever reason you have for knowing that God exists, and that we can NOT live without Him…we need to show in our lives.
We need to show that God is a major role in our lives and in fact the reason for our being.
I apololgize for just ranting a little – and not making much sense – but family is here for Christmas.
I have a link to Fox’s page on the show below. Merry Christmas and God Bless.
