Dove season – fun!

Well I have to admit being from East Texas we never dove hunted much. I knew people who would talk about their trips to West Texas to bird hunt. Since moving out here – I’ve learned that almost everyone hunts birds. I just never took the time to go try, mainly because it costs too much money to get a place to hunt.

My dove hunt

This year, however, Nick called and was telling me we could hunt some property Oxy owns. It was about 30 minutes from the house which was nice also. So we loaded up and went Saturday morning. I have to say, it was a blast. Lot’s of shooting and great weather. Nick and I did pretty good too, for being bird hunting rookies.

This morning the wife was kind enough to let me head back out there. Nick, Justin, and I hunted the same spot as Saturday. Justin is a West Texas native – so he was the expert. He also did a little

better that Nick and I. I did pretty good, but Nick had a run of bad luck today. None the less we all had a good time.

Hunting from about 8AM until 11:30AM and limiting out – getting home with cleaned game ready for the freezer by 12:30 makes for a great time.  I think I am a bird hunter now too – sorry wife. LOL In fact I can’t wait until Pheasant season. Nick and I jumped 4 roosters and 1 hen while out there.

On another note – Jace and I went out to this little restaurant that has live bands. I was a little disappointed in the band that night and talked to the guy running the place. I ended up getting a gig – before I had a band put together. LOL So, I called Jack and Nick – told them about it and Nick recruited a girl from church. We are going to start playing up there once a month or so. It is in town, family type place and will be fun for a going out night – get paid to play some music- without all the crap you run into at most places with live music. We are scheduled to go up there Saturday night and play an acoustic show for now, but we are getting a band together.

Hope everyone can get a chance to come out and hear our music sometime. We promise if nothing else – you’ll have a good time.
