The National Day of Prayer

Next Thursday, May 4, the 55th annual National Day of Prayer, a day when millions of Americans, from schoolchildren to the President will join together to lift our nation before God in prayer. I thought I would send out a reminder a few days early.
Here is a run down on the events surrounding The National Day of Prayer.
This year’s theme is “America, Honor God” and is based on 1 Samuel 2:30 “Those who honor me, I will honor”. NIV

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America when the Continental Congress issued a proclamation setting aside a day of prayer in 1775. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
National Day of Prayer Chairman Shirley Dobson, wife of Focus on the Family founder and chairman Dr. James Dobson, said “at a time when so many principles found in Scripture have been rejected by society, it’s all the more vital that God’s people stand firmly in defense of the precepts He’s laid out in His Word. As we wage this cultural battle, however, none of our efforts are assured success without consistent, fervent prayer for God’s intervention.”

Dr. and Mrs. Dobson are scheduled guests on Fox News Channel’s Hannity & Colmes Monday, May 1, subject to late breaking news. The show airs from 9:00-10:00 p.m. Eastern, 8:00-9:00 p.m. Central.

This land is built on freedom
Life and liberty for all
We’ve declared our independence
So we will depend on the One who made it all

(chorus)
Honor God, America
The land of the free
Honor God, America
O land of liberty
Honor God

So let justice flow like water
And let mercy fall like rain
Those who honor Him, He’ll honor
Together let’s raise up the One who has made us

(chorus)

(bridge)
From the mountains to the prairies
From the desert to the cities
From the heartland to the coastland
Let our hearts turn to the Lord’s hand
From the mountains to the prairies
From the desert to the cities
From the heartland to the coastland
Let our hearts turn to the Lord

(chorus)

(repeat bridge)

2006 Prayer for the Nation
Dr. Henry Blackaby

Oh Heavenly Father, You have made Yourself known to us as a nation by Your mighty works throughout our history.
From the beginning, You have
been with us through many wars and conflicts; Your right
arm has saved us. We have
been amazingly and
graciously blessed.

Today, we confess our sin
of not responding to Your
right to rule in our lives and our nation. Too often we have
despised and rejected Your will while imposing our own, and we
are now facing the consequences
of our disobedience.
Draw us back to Yourself
that we may return to Your
ways once again.
Without You we can do nothing.
You have promised that if we
honor You, You will once again honor this great nation.

That is our fervent prayer.
For Your honor
and glory we pray,
Amen.

So, I hope you will pray for our nation. We need it, the nation needs it, the world needs it.

Later,

JC
