Life

OK! I’m rested now.

100_0469.JPGWow, been having some fun lately. I got to hangout with some friends and listen to some really good live music…all at the same time. I am truely addicted to live music…all of it, the energy, the ringing ears the next morning…everything about it.
I went on the road with South First Band to do some live recording. So here is what I can remember about the trip…I have worked and slept since then. LOL

I got off work Wed. morning (Aug. 30th) and went home with the intention of getting a nap after I loaded my car up with all the gear I was taking. Seems after packing and loading it was time to hit the road…so no sleep.

I drove to Sanger, TX, where I met up with a friend of mine, Tiffany. We loaded up and met the SFB boys in FT. Worth at the white moose elephant. I loaded my gear in their trailer since I would be riding with them the rest of the week.

They were only doing an acoustic show, so I decided to kick back and have some fun…maybe too much fun…but hey…I’m was in good hands. They took good care of me. …and , yes, to all of you wanting to hear more details….too bad….you’ll have to hear the rumors. I will quote what Traci said in an email to me though…“That night was hilarous…..you were ‘that guy’. The one that everyone was laughing ‘with’. Hope u had fun and we can do it again….and anytime on the dance.” So now make your accusations, they won’t bother me a bit.

Now…we will fast forward to the next day. We left for Stephenville, TX. SFB was to open for Brandon Rhyder at Bostocks. We got there, and had to go to the college for them to do a live radio interview. It was pretty cool for them. They did two songs acoustic on the air live. Warren was volunteered to do most of the talking…which scared me…but he did well. LOL

100_0466.JPGThen Brandon Rhyder showed up and did a radio spot as well. It was kinda cool to hear him do some of his songs acoustic and by himself. I really dig the song “Freeze Frame Time

I got to meet Brandon and all of his band mates, and see James Hertless (bass player) again. Keith Davis is an amazing guitar player. I actually picked up his solo CD which has some very well written songs on it. Mike Henretty, drummer, was the funniest though. I don’t think I ever saw him serious. Everyone of these guys are extremely nice, and talented.

After talking to Keith, we decided to do some recording of Brandon also. I will send all of this to Keith and see if any of it can be used. Looking forward to maybe visiting Keith and working on this together.

So we set up and away we went. The SFB boys rocked! They sound better every time I hear them I think. Their style, sound, and show is really starting to mature. Not that it wasn’t good already….just that it is really starting to crank up another notch. I think part of it is due to the new CD which will be out soon. They have had some time to re-work some of the songs, and perfect their talents.

100_0451.JPGOh yeah….Jeff got a free haircut too. It looked good on him…but it gave him a ‘punk’ attitude. He kept being rude to everyone and threatening them. LOL Until the “father of mo-hawks’ showed up.100_0453.JPG

Anyway, the night was awesome….but I think someone forgot to pay the ‘rent’. That’s all I will say about that though. (if you don’t get it…it is because you don’t need too)

Then it was off to Tyler, TX…whoo hoo back home to the Piney Woods. Oh yeah…did I mention the freaking heat and humidity too. LOL

Tyler was the Electric Cowboy with Brandon Rhyder again. I won’t go into a bunch of details but this show rocked as well. I recorded this one also…and would like to mention my equipment worked without a hitch.

We did eat at Fat Katz, a cajun place. It was awesome good! Our waitress was great, and she was pretty quick witted too. So I will personally remember this moment and her…”I’m black and Jesus loves me!”. LOL That was funny.

The next morning before splitting ways from the Brandon Rhyder Band. We ate breakfast with James, Keith and Mike. We went to a little mexican place near the hotel. I was reading the menu and decided on the ‘super quesodia”…I asked how big it was. The waitress looks me up and down then says ” you could eat two”. LOL I laughed …along with everyone else…then ate two. LOL

Waco, TX – George’s Bar was the next stop. This was a SFB only gig. Which, nothing against BRB…I just wanted to get a little more focused on SFB with the recording. It is a small venue, so this led to a little different setup and cramped space. None the less, all went well.

Tiffany, brought my car back to me in Waco. She was there for the show as well. As I was setting my equipment up and getting a sound check, she sat a table near a big, muscle bound, shaved head, biker looking dude. This guy just looked tough. Tiffany had been calling me a quawalla…don’t ask….so when I finished setting up I went over to talk with her. The big guy looked at me…so I thought I would introduce myself. Since they were sitting in front of the speakers, and I am half deaf, when he said “Joe Waller” I thought he called me a “quawalla”. I said ‘dang’ and he had this look of weirdness come over him…then i realized must have mis-understood him. It ended up being a funny part of the night after he got the background on the story and did not kill me. LOL

I had a great time with the boys, thanks Tiff for going out of your way with the car arrangements and making the boys some cupcakes…even though Jeff doesn’t need ’em. LOL I’ll let you know how the recording went when I have more time to listen and work on it.

Starting on the 16th, we are getting together to finish the NSB CD. It will be all of our Christian songs from the old NSB stuff. We really want to share those songs with as many people as possible and have decided to start work on it without further delay. First up will be the new drum tracks which will be laid down by the infamous Brice Key. I think we’re all pretty pumped to get this project uderway and finished. I know I am.

So since I am tired of typing and I got up at 7AM this morning to play golf….I am about to shower, eat, relax and crash. I want to play again tomorrow if possible.

Later,
JC
