Bacterial Food Poisoning

Yup, it slerps, and I got a dose of it. I pray you never get it, let me tell you why…

Food borne illness is an ever-present threat that can be prevented with proper care and handling of food products. It is estimated that between 24 and 81 million cases of food borne diarrhea disease occur each year in the United States, costing between $5 billion and $17 billion in medical care and lost productivity. (Source = Al B. Wagner, Jr. Extension Food Technologist Texas Agricultural Extension Service).

I am not going to set here and dog one of my favorite restraunts, but after some careful investigation on how I might have gotten the bacteria in my system…it all leads back to Sunday night and Applebee’s.

After church we decided we needed to go get some grub, so we headed to AppleBee’s and I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. It comes cut in halves, to which I noticed I only ate a few bites out of one half. I did not think much about it, and was actually kinda happy that I did not over eat. I find to often when I like the tastes of the food that I ust eat until it is all gone…trying to watch my figure now days LOL.

Later that night, after going to bed, I found my self getting up to go to the bathroom. Something I rarely do. I went to work, and found that as the day went by I was feeling worse. At lunch, I met my mother at Chick-fil-A, where I ordered a simple chicken sandwhich (#1). Again I noticed, as did my mother, that I was not eating. She commented on it, and I stated that I just did not feel good.

I had planned on doing my workout that night, but by 4PM, I was lloking to get home. After an hour overtime, I went straight home, and straight to the bathroom, then straight to the couch where I fell asleep.

I was awaken by work calling because they needed someone to come in and check some things, to which my boss, after they could not get in touch with me, answered th call of duty. He called and was wanting to know if I was ok. I stated I was feeling a little ill, and assisted him by phone.

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I can get pretty grumpy when I am sick… ( If you can keep the comments clean, I would like to see what al of you have to say about that…so post some comments LOL). I enede up twisting off on some co-workers out of our Illinois office, to which my boss called back to ask me again if I was ok. I apologized for the out burst, and went to the shower then back to bed.

Well sleep was on thing I did not get….I was up and to the bathroom all night that night. Folks I was glad to see that I did not get the vomitting version on this illness, but I did get the “food borne diarrhea” version mentioned above. I got it just about every 20 minutes or so too…. LOL

I went to the doctor today and she confirmed it was a bacterial food poisioning, prescribed me some Cipro, and to drink plenty of good old Gatoraide, since I was badly dehydrated.

So here I sit, waiting for the next trip to my new favorite seat in the house, and praying I get better. The doctor said I should be fine by morning, so I am holding to her words and wisdom.

Moral of the story, stick to the grilled chicken, ribs, shrimp, or something the reasturant is used to cooking…avoid hamburgers unless you’re at a “burger” joint. If you are unfoutunate enough to catch this little sickness, then don’t be stbborn like me and wait to visit the doctor…go immediately, get fixed up, and in the meantime…stay within 5 steps of the “office”. LOL

Pray for me, I would actually like to go to work tomorow, and we have a show Sunday evening.

PS Just for kickers… I added a link to a page I made as a joke…thought you all could stand a little more laughing time at me. Take a look & have a laugh http://it-assure.net/index.htm
