Another Good 4th of July

Another good 4th of July weekend has come and gone. We did the way you should – hanging out with friends and family. We decided to do it here at the house, and Craig, Angela, Austin, Hardy, Lindy, Mario, LeeAnn, Ethan, and Doug came over.

We did some grillin’, as usual, fired up the Rock Band…which has become an addiction of fun for everyone. Mario is stepped in as our bass player on the game, and LeeAnn helped the girls with the singing. After a few gigs on the on going tour, we took a break which somehow lead Craig and I upstairs to the studio.

Once up there, Craig grabbed the bass guitar to find he was pretty good at it. Especially for the first time! We worked on what root notes went with what chord shapes I was playing on the guitar. Then the crowd started coming in. It started with the kids. Lindy sang a heart felt version of You are my Sunshine and Jesus Loves me. The boys, mostly fought over the mic and then never really sang. LOL Then in walked Mario, LeeAnn, Jace, and Angela…and it was on. Mario sat behind the drums and gave us the beat, and we played everything from AC/DC’s “Shook me all night long” to George Jones’ “Tennessee Whiskey”.

It was all fun!

Doug stopped by earlier in the evening to do some recording. We had an opportunity come up that we could not ignore. We have a mutual friend who is the nephew of Richie McDonald. THe former front man of Lone Star. He was in his home town of Lubbock for a show, and asked if we could get him a CD of some songs we had written and contact information. uhhh…. yes sir!

So Doug and I recorded eight songs, which were written by either Jeremy, Doug, or I. It was just an acoustic and vocal recording…with “one takes”. Doug called the next day to let me know he did get to meet with Richie, take pictures and give him the CD. Richie ensured Jeremy and Doug that it would be listened to by him and others. So that was great news.

This does not mean we will have one cut anytime soon, but it is the hands of someone who could really make a difference….and that is a step in the right direction.

Saturday evening, after I helped Craig hang some shelves, and he came over to help me make and hang some guitar hangers in the studio, (while the women went shopping) – we rented some movies and had a “movie marathon” at our house. Eating the left over grillin!

All in all, it was a great weekend. Now my boy is home from his grandparents, and we are about to go grab some grub in town. Then I have to come home and get my stuff packed for a week of training in Oklahoma.

Jace and I will use iChat to communicate while I am there. I think it will be neat to actually use the video and audio instead of the old text stuff.

Anyway, I hope your weekend was as good as mine. Check out the pics of the guitar hangers we made for a fraction of the cost. Click here – they’re down at the bottom of the page and you can click on them to make them bigger.
