…after the storm.
Well Rita has left its mark and we’re all still here, family and friends are fine.
My parents housed 16 of our family members from the Dayton & Houston areas. Lufkin, or should I say out here where we were, was hit with some strong winds and rain. The wind did the most damage, tearing off a few shingles, removing some of the roof on the boat shed, the privacy fence is down, and there are a lot of limbs in the yard.
We’ve been without electricity since approximately 4:00AM, so it has been rather quiet while we thought of ways to get the latest news, and I thought of different ways to keep my fish alive.
My salt water tank, had the battery backup run out of juice around 5:30 – 6:00 AM. So I fist used a battery powered air mattress pump to aerate the water. Then I realized I had a couple power converters in my SUV. So, I currently have a small TV/DVD player and my fish tank (running just one pump/filter) running off the converter that is plugged into a emergency battery pack. The battery pack is one of those you carry in the trunk or behind the seat of a pickup to jump off your car in the case of emergency. It is a work horse. When it runs out I will run an extension cord from my SUV into the house. LOL
I have to try and keep those fish alive. Too much money invested….makes you think about getting into hobbies like that, none the less…I like my fish. So…LOL
The rest of the family tore out of here for there homes southward. Most had already gotten updates on the damage, which seemed not to be that bad in the Dayton area. A few trees down, and some rain.
I called my boss to see if we needed to do anything at work today or tomorrow, no answer, so I take it we are fine there too.
So, now we are going to sit back and watch a movie, play some guitar and sing until electricity is restored and the rain stops. Then it will be back to the norm…
Thanks to all of you who checked in on us, thanks for the prayers,
I will give another post when the electricity returns. So there will be two back to back posts…this one is an offline post right now.
Later,
JC
