I’m with the band!

LOL Whoo hoo being in a band is…well just like being in a band. Thought I would take the time to put some stuff up here about our little experience over the past month. Road trips!

Well we started a little contemporary Christian band, a while back and have been getting geared up to start playing local churches and youth events. Been fun and to be honest frustrating. Come cry, laugh, and go crazy with me as I tell the short version (LOL) of the story.

We have a bit of a handi-cap, compared to most bands…. our rhythm guitarist lives approximately 500 miles away. He also writes some of our songs, and well always gripes about showing up for practice. “Man I hate that drive!” LOL
Anyway, we won’t go through all the lame excuses I can think up…so I will continue.
We we’re asked to tag along with a local church’s youth group for their camp as the “entertainment”. I think we were all ready to play, just because we love playing for the Lord so much now days. This trip, as far as the playing, went well given we had not really played together before this. It made for a great learning experience for us.
We had a brand new sound system, that we were not used to….oh wait…that was another excuse. LOL
The last night we decided to break down the drums, pack up the electric guitars, and pull out all the acoustics. We plugged them all up to the sound board, and started the night. Our drummer (who is really one of our guitar players, since our new drummer at the time had not officially started with us yet), sat in on the acoustic set with us on an additional guitar. This made for a more personal sitting in our minds…and to watch the worship of the people attending it looked like it worked. It was awesome.
Then we came home for a few days to go through the normal bump and grind…then it was another road trip to Post, TX. There, in the middle of no where, we attempted to record a demo CD of our originals.
Wow, eight was the goal..in two days. We knew we were gonna be cramped for time, but it was just to be a demo CD…not a high production type deal.
Well, the songs were all newly written, never been practiced, and some never heard by anyone but the writer. Yep, that made for some temper flaring, headache making, want to throw your instrument out the door….uhh fun!
We made it through, learned alot, and realized even more how much we loved making music to praise God. We, also have listened to the songs so much now…that we know how we want them to go when we venture back into the studio again. This time prepared, prayed up, and with more time to take tracks. LOL
All in all, I think it will be just what we wanted out of the recording when it is finished. If not…well no one’s fault but ours. LOL
We know we’re doing some good for the Lord, when the devil showed up to try and break us down.
Please pray for us and check out our site when you have the time. It is still being developed, but here is the URL http://www.newsonband.com.

God Bless
