Me and Hank Hill

Well.. we are in a shutdown at the plant. Now I know how Hank Hill felt after a good 14 hour day at the old propane plant. “Peggy, that boy just ain’t right I tell ya!”

Yeah so we have shut the entire plant down to do repairs and what not. I am told this is the busiest time at the plant next to something going wrong. I have also been told that it is the best time to learn your way around the plant and the flow and what does what. This I found is true today.

Buster (whom I can’t remember his last name) does the same job I do. Just he has been there for 20 + years. So this makes him much more efficient and knowledgeable. He has been showing me a few things since I came on. Today, since it was nice and quiet in the plant (everything is shutdown and not running) he took me under his wing again.

He started by working my tail end off manually shutting valves and making sure the contractors and roust abouts have a safe place to work. Then we spent most of the day just walking around the plant as he told me what this and that does. He showed me the flow of the different gases and liquids we pull into the plant. He even made me trace a pipe back to the other side of the plant to find if we could manually shut it off and lock it out. After a good 10 minute walk with my head looking up at pipes… I found where it came from, but no valves on my way. I radioed him…yeah he knew there were no valves – just a little test. Guess I passed that one. LOL

Anyway, Buster is a really good guy. He has really given a lot of effort into showing me around the plant and sharing everything he has learned over the years with me. I can’t really start learning the procedures and all just yet since we are in shutdown and some of the new training stuff is not on the servers yet.

I also want to say all the guys out there are a blast to work with. Everyone cuts up toward one another, but pull together to get the job done safely.

On another note. I still do not know when I will be going home to get the rest of my belongings. I really want to have a few more clothes, and all my stuff. LOL I need a house too! I know all will come in due time though.

I think I will work through this shutdown, and when I am off for Christmas – go home and try to schedule the meeting with the movers then. I should know more about the house buying by then as well.

Thanks for the emails and calls about offering me up in prayer for the stuff I mentioned in the last blog. God has really lifted some of the stress off me on that. I will let you know how it goes soon.

Oh yeah for all you boys back home….you should see some of the nice bucks I see on my way to work and home from work. Nick and I saw a really nice one tonight. Big rack! LOL

Anyway, I am ready for some shut eye. 5 AM is just a eye close away. Then it is back to making some money for a house. LOL I just wanted to update everyone on what is going on.

Later,
James
