From the High Plains of New Mexico to Houston

Friday Eric and I rode over to Clovis, New Mexico. We stopped and ate at Fat Boys Barbque and then visited High Plains Harley Davidson. The weather was nice compared to last weekend. When we left Lubbock it was around 78 with a good breeze. It was a short straight shot to Clovis. We took HWY 84 West all the way. It was about 100 miles, and once you got outside of Lubbock there were not many towns to brag about.

Some of the towns along the way were Shallowater, Anton, Littlefield, Sudan, Muleshoe, Farwell, and Texico. When passing through Littlefield, TX,  I remembered that it is the birthplace of the late Waylon Jennings. If you did not know, Waylon got his music start as a bass player for the late Buddy Holly of Lubbock, TX.  Oxy has a small plant in Anton that we go to from time to time on call outs or shutdowns. Other than that, we did not stop to sight see. We kept it on the road and got to Clovis.

We spent most of our time at the HD shop. We checked out the sportsters and the v-rods. Bought a T-shirt, as usual. I got the parts guy to help me find some floorboard re-locators. They’re made by Kuryakyn, and they move the floorboards forward 1″ and out 1″. That should be just right.

Then we got some water, and headed back to Lubbock. By now it was around 96 out, but much cooler than the weekend before. The wind did kick up a few times, but not too bad. We got some cloud cover once we crossed back into Texas and that was nice. It seemed like the temp dropped about 5 degrees when the clouds came out.

It was a good time and a good day to ride. Not bad for a round trip of about 200 miles. It started lightening and storming back toward Clovis once we got back to the house. So we timed it all just right.

The Houston part of this post is…well I am going to Houston for a week starting Sunday evening. I’ll be there for work – a training class on EFM best practices. The hotel they discounted me in Sugarland is right next to the Republic Harley Davidson shop. So I might just have to stop by and look around.
