Chicken run

Kaden’s chickens are doing well. He has learned to go out an open the door for them to access the run, and close it when they are all in at night. I hope we can make sure that happens throughout the year. I had to put them up last night, so I am trying the light trick. I put a regular 60 watt light in the top of the coop – replacing the brooding lamp. It is on a timer that comes on around 7:30 PM and goes off around 9PM.

Yesterday, due to the impatient of my family – i helped them out of the coop. This morning, we just opened the door and let them figure it out. When we went out around noon, there were 2 in the run and the rest trying to figure out if those two were going to die…

As I walked in the run to check the water and feed, another decided to fly out of the coop to meet me. Kaden told it to use the ladder next time.

I removed the feed from the inside of the coop, and decided one feeder would be enough for now. If I see that this is a problem I can add the feeder that was inside the coop to the run. For now, it is simply stored under the nesting boxes outside. I figure that will assist them in learning how to get out of the coop – or starve.

I planted sweet corn, green beans, beets, and some carrots yesterday after I mowed. I need to get my dang potatoes in the ground. I plan on getting plants and all by next weekend to finish out the planting. I think the cold snap and snow we had last fir day was the last one. I hope. LOL
