San Antonio – long hours – and Boo`Te!
I am just now getting to make a post on here after a great four days off. I spent them in San Antonio with South First Band at Rhapsody Street Studios. We had a good time.
I worked a 12 hour night shift then left from work to make San Antonio when the boys did. I ended up getting there an hour early… so I hung out in a music store playing guitar really loud. LOL
When they got there we unloaded the gear and things started rolling along. New heads on the drums, tuned the drums, and the boys laid a scratch track to a new song coming on the album. I was instantly impressed with Mack Damon’s, (Engineer/Producer) knowledge and creativity.
As usual, Pat beat the skins great…Jeff sang like..uhh a bird? and Stephen played the bass like…uhh like a good bass player! Warren actually did not have to cut anything during this scratch track.
This song is gonna be one the best on the album…I promise…but I am not telling anything else about it. LOL except… ‘your sent lingers deliciously’ …Dang how about those for lyrics?
There was alot of ‘in between’ time while one person was laying tracks the rest of us would goof off, sleep, read, or play Tiger Woods Golf on the Playstation 2. Jeff sucks at this game by the way….because his profile is built up so much that there is now way any of us could beat him. LOL
I got to meet James … Harkless…I think was the last name … and his wife Stacey. James plays bass for Brandon Rhyder. They brought homemade lasagna to us at the studio the first night. Yes it was awesome!
They also fed us a second time at their apartment. Chicken fajitas. Wow! We borrowed their shower a couple times too. These are some of the nicest people on earth I think.
Warren did a lot of guitar work this time around. I was seriously amazed at the tone they we’re getting out of the Dual Rectifier. I was also impressed with the ideas Warren and Mack were coming up with.
Mack and his crew were very knowledgeable … and allowed me to stand behind him and take mental notes and ask a few questions. Just watching him work was awesome.
We got a little bored at one moment while we were their…and that can be dangerous for this group. So the SFB boys spawned into their alter egos Sheriff Dirty Leg and the Brown Stars. Once taking on their characters…they cut their newest single that is taking the Hip-Hop world by storm. It is titled ‘Boo` Te’. You can view the video I produced for them…WARNING..it has just a little language…so it is rated PG-13. You’ll need Quicktime player to view this…it’s free! If you don’t have it get it here! Then— Click to View the video!
Andrew, my youngest brother turned 24 on the 18th. He came over to San Antonio from Austin on Thursday night. We went to Hooter’s..uhh I mean Fred’s Burgers…and ate. He came back to the studio and hang out a while. It was really nice to see him. I just wish I could have spent more time with him. Happy birthday lil’ bro!
Then Warren and I decided to stay up way to late….got hungry…went on a search of San Antonio for a Los Po-something…we found one around 5:30 AM. It was great food …and the sign outside was even better. You can view it to the right, sorry for the quality..cell phone pic. LOL
We made our way back…via a scenic route…to the studio around 6:45AM. We found our bed rolls in the tracking room and took our ..uhh…maybe two hours sleep with pride.
Well…I am gonna close this and just say…I love hanging with those guys. They’re going somewhere soon. Buy the new CD when it comes out, catch them live, check their web site (myspace.com/southfirstband) and you’ll see why.
Until my life has something else I want to share on here…
