Ohio vacation and hunt 2006!

weirdo.jpgWell I had a really good trip to Ohio. I got to visit some family and friends…and got to do some good deer hunting. I enjoyed every minute I was there. Now I’m looking forward to the next trip.

I left Lubbock on Monday morning (Nov. 27) and returned on Wed. evening (Dec 6th). So I basically had 10 days to hunt and visit, which I wish would have been about 20 days instead.

I stayed with my uncle, since I knew we would be hunting and keeping long weird hours. I did not want to be a pain in the side for my grandparents. So, I arrived that afternoon and my uncle and Jeremy had already bagged a couple of deer. My uncle bagged a big bodied buck, and Jerm’ got a small doe. I knew they would get one on opening day of gun season. Punks! LOL

We went over to my grandparents for a visit and then down to purchase my license and tags. Tags for out of state were $125.00 and tags were $24.00 for each deer – one buck, two doe. I only purchased two tags. Then it was off to the house for supper and talk about where we would hunt.

The next two days were hot, in the 70’s, and not many deer moving. I saw a buck and 2 doe the second day, but did not get a shot. I think the 6 point we bagged later in the week was the same buck I had seen on the second day. Anyway… we stayed out all day the first day, hunted the morning of the second, the third day it rained so hard you could not see 10 feet in front of you, but we hunted that morning anyway. LOL That evening a wind storm blew in which reminded me of West Texas (home), and it brought with it cold weather & snow.

It paid off too! The deer were moving and we tagged out – my uncle kept one for when Jimmy, his son, comes in. I wish I could have seen him (Jimmy) too, but maybe next time.

100_0577.jpgNext few days was skinning, quartering, and processing deer. I learned alot, but Aunt TT ran me off…LOL… so I did not help much.

I took advantage of that time to go do some family visiting. I started by going to see my Great Grandmother who is 103 years old. She is still 100_0558.jpgsharp! She asked where my wife was…and since I did not feel like getting preached to about divorce, I said I left her in Texas. No, I did not lie to my great grand mother….the way I see it is she left me in Texas, and I left her in Texas. LOL She was also a little mad about people hunting on Sunday. So I was not going to bother telling her we killed two on Sunday….until my Grandpa opened his mouth. LOL He was trying to get me in trouble…and almost did.

Then I had lunch with my grandparents on my mom’s side. Told stories and visited, then I headed over to see my dad’s side of the family. My dad had drove in from Chillicothe, OH. So I got to visit with him, my grandparents on his side, my uncle Paul, and aunt Barbara. It was a good visit. I stayed until around 5PM that evening.

Then I went over to my cousin Tiffany’s apartment, ate with them and hung around with my uncle and Tiffany’s boyfriend while the ladies went to a Christmas parade in town. I’ll hunt in the cold, but I’m not gonna stand out in it just to see a fat guy in a red suit. LOL

100_0565.jpgThe next morning I went back over to visit with my dad’s side of the family. I ate breakfast with them and we talked for a while. Dad decided he needed to head back, so he left. Then I pulled out my guitar and played some songs I had written and showed them some pictures on my iBook (laptop) . It was a good visit.

I was on my way back over to my uncle’s house, where I was staying, to see if I could help with any of the canning or processing of the deer. When I saw something moving out in the field. I noticed it was a huge cat….a cougar….told my grandmother I would have tocougar10.jpg call her back, slammed down the cell phone, pulled the truck over, and grabbed my camera. This was wild! It was noon, and he was out in the open like this. About 100 yards off the road, and maybe a 1/2 mile from my uncles house. My uncle had said he saw one years ago while deer hunting, but my grandpa told him he was crazy. Well, now my grandpa believes there might be a few cougars still roaming these parts. LOL

They will ship me the meat from all the deer I tagged soon, and I did take two bags of jerky with me on the plane. LOL I think I might starve before it all gets here. I promised the boys out at work I would make a big bowl of deer chili for them. I will pass out the jerky sparingly. It is my favorite, and it is precious.

The visit was good. I wish I could have stayed a few more days. Everyone thought I was still pretty much as crazy as I always was, except maybe I gained a few pounds. LOL I told them when you make more money it allows you to eat more. So that was the only reason I had except I don’t work hard anymore. LOL…as if I ever did.

Anyway, enjoy the pics and you can find more here http://web.mac.com/clark.james/iWeb/Site/Ohio Trip.html
