Music

Are you ready to rock?

With the blog about our trip to Jamaica…since I had to cutt a bunch out to protect the innocent…I forgot something else. My amp is back from New York where it was worked on by Voodoo Amps. Read on from here if you want to know what all they did…

Yeah Trace at Voodoo amps worked his spell on my 1984 JCM 800 2203 100 watt. Unfortunately I have not had time to play on it yet since I only have a 4 x12 cab that is in storage. Living in this small apartment while the house is built is killing me. I think I am going to buy a 2 x 12 cab soon. Just so I have something I can carry with me easier when I play somewhere other than the house.

Anyway, I thought I would give some details as to what modifications and repairs were done to it. Then, when I get a speaker cab I’ll shoot some video and audio of the sound. I am sure it will be very nice.

First, a little background. I sent the amp to a local shop to have it re-biased, and re-tubed. Got it home, started playing and it sounded great…phone rings…stop playing put it on standby…come back to the amp and play for a few minutes then it just dies….what the crap!!!!!! The amp would not even power on. So I was pretty much…uhh sad and confused.

So Trace at Voodoo amps calls me after receiving the amp and says the repair was just a broken wire. So he re-wired it for well we’ll keep prices out of this…CHEAP!

So here is the list of mods:
Deluxe Classic Mod –

  • All Modifications are exclusive to Voodoo Ampsâ„¢.
  • Recommended for blues/rock/80’s players – Not for high gain or extreme metal players

  • All frequencies are balanced out so the amp is more even sounding over all as well as responsive

  • The amp will be able to cut through the mix a lot better both live as well as in the studio
  • Harmonics leap off from the fretboard with ease

  • Pulled out – increased tightness – adds even more bottom end than any other control on the market
  • Allows you to dial in the perfect amount of bottom end for what ever your style is
  • You can tighten or loosen the bottom end to suit your personal playing style
  • This is a must for recording artists as well as rock/metal/heavy/extreme metal players

  • Replace all filter caps
Completely re-tubed (all matched tubes) & bias set

So now for some pics of my precious. From the front it looks exactly the same as it did when it left, except a small sticker (which comes off very easily – I left it on see the pic).

The rear shows a few external parts of the mod. Little secrets! I had to sacrifice the D.I. on the back, but it is never used anyway. If I want to DI I will use the Red Box I have. There is a close up pic also.
