    Toe mate toe

Why is it not spelled that way? I need to get my tomato plants this weekend. Had a little going on over the last few days – hopefully i can squeeze that into the schedule this weekend. Keagan’s 17th birthday will be this weekend. She already got her gift, but I guess formalities state we must have a celebrations of sorts. I really don’t want to have to eat a piece of cake. On the homestead side of things: Kaden’s chickens are doing well. I rebuilt the roost inside the coop, and later that night I placed them on the roost. Seemed to work, they were still there when I…

    JD Sanders- Happy 90th

Jace’s grandpa, JD Sander’s had his 90th birthday today. We made the trip to Andrews, TX to celebrate with family. I will post a slide show Jace built and had playing on the TV in the conference room while everyone was there. JD seemed to have a good time. He enjoyed the stories and the old pictures on the TV. In other news – we got Keagan a 2016 Jetta. Now she has to earn it. LOL Keeping it short – here are the pics and the slide show.

    All by themselves!

The wind is blowing pretty good this evening – at least by West Texas standards it is more than the norm. I decided I would go out a check on the chickens and garden. I first noticed that I did not see any chickens in the run. As I made my way to the coop, I looked around the yard. No chickens. Could it be? Yes! They have put themselves in the coop. Guess they did not like the windy evening. While there I decided to shut the door for the night as they were already roosting and had plenty of feed and water. I was happy to see the…

    Chicken wrangler

I guess I am what you would call a chicken wrangler. I am having to go out every night and wrangle these chickens into their coop. They are young and don’t have it figured out yet. Hopefully with me moving the feed back into their coop, the light on in the coop at dark, and me making the walk the plank – they will figure it out. If not, I am almost certain thy will freeze to death come winter. Ha! Tonight they were a little more cooperative. I walked in the run, they came to me, I picked the first one up and put it in the coop. The…

    Chicken run

Kaden’s chickens are doing well. He has learned to go out an open the door for them to access the run, and close it when they are all in at night. I hope we can make sure that happens throughout the year. I had to put them up last night, so I am trying the light trick. I put a regular 60 watt light in the top of the coop – replacing the brooding lamp. It is on a timer that comes on around 7:30 PM and goes off around 9PM. Yesterday, due to the impatient of my family – i helped them out of the coop. This morning, we…
