West Texas Wind
The wind has been vicious this weekend. Blowing dust and tumble weeds every where. So since I was on call this weekend, we can’t really go anywhere or do anything…and I could not ride my bike because of the wind…we stayed home.
We had ordered some parts for my bike and decided this would be a good weekend to put them on. We had a tour pack, some saddle bag rails, George gave me some old school looking air horns, and an air seat to put on. We started working with the seat since George had some how broke a pressure switch in it. A friend and I did a little rigging on the switch, but it did not work….the switch was still bad. I ordered a new one.
So, then we put on the saddle bag rails. They look good and will help protect the bags. They were used, and bought off ebay, but look really good. We had also bought the tour pack off ebay from a Harley dealer in Longview. They wanted $155.00 to ship it, but we talked them into letting us pick it up locally. We then called some good family friends, Pat & Janice, who picked it up and shipped it to us for $23.00. Now that is saving money. LOL
George just about drove me crazy with the question “is it here yet?”. Finally, around 9 PM that night it showed up. I cleaned it and the saddle bags with leather conditioner. Then it was off to bed. We had a full day of playing Harley Shop planned for the next day.
Saturday morning, momma Jace made us clean house, which is normal for us on Saturday’s. Then George and I headed up to the Harley shop here in Lubbock. I bought a needed bracket from the used pile in the back. We came home and talked about getting the part cheap and then fitted it to the bike. Then we were off to get Debbie and go out to eat for their 43rd anniversary. We had a good meal, but I could not wait to get home and see what we could get done.
When we got home, we decided we had it on wrong and needed to make some adjustments and another bracket to hold the tour pack better. We did not want it to move when Jace leaned against it or when it was loaded with luggage. George had an idea to get some angle iron. We then decided aluminum would be even better. I knew where to find it. From there we moved on to installing the air horns. We got the compressor wired up, and the hose ran, but then we had a small problem – only one of the horns was sounding. So I played around with it for a while and found that the bigger horn was in deed working, but the air supply was not getting to it with enough pressure. So, in all my genius-ness, I decided to restrict the air feed to the smaller horn, in turn allowing more flow to the bigger horn. It worked and my horn sounds like a train now. LOL Awesome!
I had to work with Craig a little on Saturday evening, we do have a business to run, so I did not get the tour pack on the way I wanted. I still had plans though.
After church, we went to eat lunch, then headed home. I changed clothes and then headed to Lowe’s. I knew they had a small supply of aluminum stock, and was hoping I could find what I needed. I did. I found some 1/8″ thick, 1 1/2″ wide aluminum angel. I took it home, cut it down to size, made a couple cuts on angels and drilled some 4 holes. I then ground it down and buffed it out. It looks good. I think between George and I – there is nothing we can’t rig. LOL
I took it for a short ride over to Craig’s today, and it did fine. The bike has really transformed in a short time. I know after we get the air seat on it – it will slow down a little. None the less, I posted some pics of its new clothes. I plan to do a few more decorations to it, add a stage one setup to it, and some sort of speakers or radio…that is all I want. LOL …all I want….not need. LOL I have went crazy…ier!
