Hard lessons learned…

nsb.jpgSo we had a good long weekend -we, the old NSB. Stephen made the 7, 8 hour drive and arrived on Thursday around 3PM. We did some recording and had a good time over all.

We started with recording new bass tracks. This went pretty smoothly, and most of them were completed on Thursday night after we went to eat. We caught up on the latest happenings, since we all don’t get to hang out much anymore. Then retired for the night around 3AM’ish.

Next morning – we were off and recording again by 10AM, finishing the bass tracks. We took a break around 11 to go take a few new pictures of the four of us. We had some good laughs while doing this. Kim, a friend from the church, was nice enough to come out and do the picture taking. She had a nice digital camera, which allowed us to get a copy of the pics as soon as she was done. All 100 plus pics! LOL she was snapping them like crazy.

We then started recording vocals, and some guitar stuff. Stopped for a quick bite to eat and fired away again until around 11PM. Exhausted, we figured we would watch a movie and then hit the sack. Well, Stephen and I decided to listen to some of the takes we had made before calling it a night. WE came up with some new ideas on the vocals – mostly Stephen’s idea since he is the main singer…but I will steal some credit for the idea….it’s my blog!

So we wanted to record a couple of the idea’s we had so we could go back to them in the morning. This ended up being good takes on several songs and we stopped around 3AM again. LOL we’re stupid!

So the next morning we all gathered around 10AM to start up again. Hashed out some idea’s and thoughts on what we had did the day before…then continued on. Finishing up the lead vocals on all the songs and starting the backing vocals. This went fairly fast and some new ideas popped up while we were doing the takes.

We finished early around 5PM and Stephen was looking forward to a trip to Lubbock for a nice steak. So we headed that way. Stopping at Texas Road House for a big ribeye and to watch some of the Tech vs Texas game. Wow that was a good game…and an even better ribeye. LOL

We came back to the house and decided to put down some keyboard stuff. Well, I fired up the computer and Pro Tools to find it was giving me an error. So, I freaked a little…tried a few things….not working….freaked more…and then decided I would just wipe the system drive clean. (I had all the recording sessions on another drive- duh) So, then after starting the restore on the system drive, already to the point of no return, and having calmed down a bit…I decided to see if I could find a fix. I googled for it….all I had to do was delete my Digidesign Datbase files. Crap!

So, yeah….no keyboard stuff was tracked, but I can always go back and do that later. I am still getting my system back the way it was before the hickup. I do have Pro Tools up and running and everything is there just like it should be. LOL You have to love technology.

Also, a little funny thing to show you what sleep deprivation can do…I went to bed around 1AM Sunday morning thinking I was to go to work Sunday night at 7PM. WRONG!!!! I don’t have to go to work until Monday night. What an idiot. I was just about to get ready for work when I kept thinking…”man this weekend sure flew by”. Then I checked my iCal. Yeah I’m stupid, but we all new that.

Stephen got up, let himself out and hit the road sometime before I even opened my eyes. I hope he made it home all right – since I have not heard from him yet.

So that was my weekend in a nutshell. Looking forward to hearing the final product of this CD project.

DON’T FORGET TO SET YOUR CLOCKS FOR THE TIME CHANGE!!!!!
