Trig?
Ok so I have been building all these slot resonators, bass traps, diffusers, etc. for the studio. I am one of those kind of guys who …. if I can get it right on paper…check it twice…then I can build it. Well, for the most part.
So with some of the angles and stuff that generate different diffusions, tame certain frequencies, etc…my math skills started to fail me a little. I remembered some trig….but I also remember that Shannon sat next to me and we talked more about what we were going to do at “x” party on ‘x’ date. LOL
Therefore, I implemented the assistance of my mechanical engineer friend…and it pays to have smart friends. LOL Not only did I get a scaled drawing of my build, but the angles, measurements, etc. On top of that, I got a trig refresher. I now remember SOHCAHTOA, and can do it…uhh with a calculator (how you like that Mrs. Hawkins). In addition, he seemed to totally enjoy and jump at the chance to draw it up. He must not have enough to do at work. LOL
SOHCAHTOA
A way of remembering how to compute the sine, cosine, and tangent of an angle.
SOH stands for Sine equals Opposite over Hypotenuse.
CAH stands for Cosine equals Adjacent over Hypotenuse.
TOA stands for Tangent equals Opposite over Adjacent.
Music is full of mathematical – just off the top of my head; I am thinking Amplitude, Frequency, intervals, etc.
Anyway…just wanted to update you all on the need to push your kids in math. Like me, and most of us, they will want to think things like “when am I ever gonna use this crap?” …then you can fire back at them…when you are trying to build a studio! LOL

jAMES YOU CAN’T BULLSHIT A BULLSHITTER. tHE ONLY TRIG THAT YOU KNOW IS THE (TRIGGER ON A GUN) THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET. I KNOW IT MAKES YOU SMART TO SOME OF YOUR FRIENDS, BUT FOR THE ONES THAT REALLY KNOW YOU. DON’T EVEN TRY IT.
I WAS BORN IN THE DARK BUT IT WASN’T LAST NITE.
