Work? Play? – Just good times?

You’ve achieved success in your field when you don’t know whether what you’re doing is work or play.
Warren Beatty

That quote pretty much sums up the last 3 days for me. We got together to finish the band’s CD project and though we had a lot of work to do, in the end, we were happy and satisfied.

A good friend let us use his vacant house in the country to finish our recording. It made a perfect make shift recording studio. We used two rooms – the living room was turned into the control room – the snake was ran down the hall to the master bedroom – which was turned into the main studio room.

We hung some blankets on the walls over the windows to deaden the rooms reverb a little, and it was fine. Plenty of room to lay down some guitar, bass, and vocal work. That’s right now drums! Our previous drummer moved to Tennessee, so we could not re-take the drum tracks. We kept them – errors and all – and just touched them up a bit with processing them. We ran them back through the board – compressed them, EQ’d them, polished them a bit – and they sound good enough for a demo CD.

Hey old drummer – no hard feelings – we still love ya bro!

We have collected some new recording gear that really helped out this time. Namely a couple compressors, an effects unit, brand spanking new 24/48 8 bus board, and a second Presonus Firepod. I have to mention this now – Presonus rocks! You can’t beat their equipment on a price/quality margin.

So anyway – yeah – we put down some new tracks to clean up some stuff we did not like from the recording we did at the old Shawnee Praire Baptist church building, and we also added some of the new ideas we had for the songs. Stephen tried some new vocal stuff that really came out well. Nick threw down some tracks with his new guitar (Ibanez), and me well I just simply played a few things I had thought up since the last recording. I did get to get all the background and guitar ideas put together with everyone. Speaking of background vocals – We had a guest – April – show up and do some background singing for us.

She did this on a moments notice pretty much – barely knew our songs – yet walked in sang – and we liked what we heard. Really helped smooth out some vocal ideas we have been wanting to try. Thanks goes out to April! (She can be out temporary adopted New Son Band member — wait Son? – is that politicallly correct? LOL)

Now it is back to getting some mixes – and off to Canada for mastering – then ya’ll can email, call, or track us down to get a copy.

So it is bed time for me – got to go tear down all the equipment and move it back home tomorrow. Nick has a 500 mile drive waiting to wake him up in the morning….so pray for him while he is on the road.
Peace to the homies, pre-order your CD now and we’ll throw in a thank you card! LOL
