Survived the rain – waiting on more…

Seems like the wet season might be upon us. It is welcome, after the years of drought we have had. I just wish it would not all come at once. My garden was hit pretty hard. Need to make plans for that next year (hoop house?). I went and helped my good friend William a little last weekend. He is a builder/remodeler “do it all” kind of guy. He needed an extra hand to assist him with some awnings he was building. Took us a couple days, but turned out nice I think. It was nice to get out and do something out of the norm for me. You can…

    West Texas Rain

We have been getting some good rain out here on the west coast of Texas. Needed it, but as usual our average rainfall for the year tries to come all at once. So not much has been going on. Watching the rain and praying we get what we need without flooding my garden out. So here are some pictures to look at, and the lyrics to the song in my head by Wade Bowen.       “West Texas Rain” I have been restless I have been reckless I’ve been a strain on my mom’s heart I’ve been a drunk I’ve been a dreamer Pulling the strings on this old…

    Happy Mother’s Day 2016

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers! We celebrated by letting Jace go shopping. Then we spent the afternoon with friends. We did baby-back ribs and sausage on the smoker and played some dominos. We talked about the different options for our future, since William is a builder and all. With Kaden starting junior high next year, it poses to be a more difficult year. We have been studying several options for him as well. At least we found Lubbock does have some facilities that can assist us. We will know more soon. We have been entertaining the options of moving for a while now. With the city wanting to…

    Roosting

Kaden’s chickens have learned to go into their coop at night and how to roost. I no longer have to wrangle them into the coop, nor do I have to pick them up and put them on the roost. I only had to put them on the roost a couple times before they figured that part out. Kaden and I are both very happy that each night we go out to close the coop door – they are on the roost and ready for us to close it up. I might put the automation career to work at home and automate the door before winter. Speaking of automation, I planned…

    The husbandry of Chickens

Yeah, I know – the title is a little professional for this blog, but it is exactly what my son is learning to do. The decision to get chickens was conceived by him and has, so far, turned out to be one of the best things we could have done. With Kaden getting all involved with the chickens, not just the ones we have, but all chickens, we have seen a bit more responsibility coming from him. He let’s them out each morning. He checks on them at least twice when coming home from school. On weekends, he will come up missing…I have learned to find him in the chicken…
